The FORNEY INDUSTRIES INC 31310 is an E6011 mild steel welding rod designed for all-position stick welding where strong arc force and deep penetration are required. At 5/32 inches in diameter and sold in a 10-pound container, this electrode is well suited for structural repair, maintenance welding, and fabrication work on steel surfaces that may be rusty, coated, or otherwise difficult to prep. The strong arc force burns through surface contamination and drives deep into the base metal, producing sound welds even under less-than-ideal conditions. Fast metal solidification supports vertical and overhead passes without excessive sagging or undercutting.
This rod sees regular use in field repair, farm equipment maintenance, pipeline work, and general fabrication where AC or DC welding machines are in service. Its ability to weld rusty steel, galvanized tanks, steel castings, and pressure pipe makes it a go-to choice for maintenance welders and field service technicians who encounter variable base metal conditions. The light slag coating lifts cleanly after each pass, reducing interpass cleanup time on multi-pass welds and keeping production moving on vertical and overhead joints.
Designed for use on mild steel base metals including rusty steel, galvanized tanks, steel castings, and pressure pipe. Compatible with standard AC and DC stick welding machines capable of running E6011 electrodes.
E6011 electrodes are installed and operated by qualified welders and welding technicians following applicable AWS and workplace safety standards. Ensure the welding machine is powered off and leads are secured before changing electrodes. Store rods in a dry environment to prevent moisture absorption, which can degrade arc performance. Always wear appropriate PPE including a properly rated welding helmet, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing before striking an arc.
