The FORNEY INDUSTRIES INC 30905 is an E7018 low hydrogen mild steel stick electrode designed for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) on a range of structural and fabrication applications. Available in a 5/32-inch diameter and packaged in a 5-pound container, this electrode operates on smaller amperage DC or DCEN current. The low hydrogen flux coating minimizes moisture pickup, which directly reduces the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking and weld porosity. Licensed welders and certified fabricators working in field or shop environments rely on this electrode type for consistent arc stability and sound weld deposits on demanding base materials.
The 30905 electrode is suited for all-position welding on hardenable steels where preheat is not applied, as well as on cold rolled steels that are prone to excessive porosity when welded with conventional rod. Typical applications include field erection of steel structures, structural frames, trailer hitches, and chassis fabrication. The E7018 classification also makes it appropriate for structural steel work subject to code requirements specifying low hydrogen electrodes.
Designed for use with DC or DCEN shielded metal arc welding machines; suitable for mild steel, hardenable steels, and cold rolled steels in structural and fabrication applications.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified welder following applicable AWS, OSHA, and local safety codes. Store low hydrogen electrodes in a dry environment or a rod oven to prevent moisture absorption, which can reintroduce hydrogen into the weld. Ensure the base metal is clean and free of mill scale, rust, oil, and contaminants before striking an arc. Always wear appropriate PPE including a welding helmet, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing during operation.
