The Forney Industries 42290 is a 2-pound spool of E70S-6 classification MIG welding wire with a 0.024-inch diameter. E70S-6 wire is a copper-coated, solid mild steel electrode suited for gas metal arc welding (GMAW) applications. The higher silicon and manganese content in the E70S-6 classification improves wetting action and produces a cleaner weld bead on base metals that have light mill scale, rust, or surface contamination. This spool is a standard choice for welders, fabricators, and maintenance technicians working on mild steel components.
This wire is used in light-to-medium fabrication, auto body repair, general maintenance welding, and structural tack work on mild and low-alloy steel. The 0.024-inch diameter is well-suited for thinner gauge sheet metal and light structural work where lower heat input and good bead control are priorities. The 2-pound spool fits standard small-spool wire feeders and benchtop MIG units commonly used in shops, service vans, and field repair setups.
Designed as a replacement or consumable MIG wire for standard small-spool GMAW welders that accept 0.024-inch solid wire on a 2-pound spool hub.
Installation is performed by a welder or fabricator familiar with GMAW equipment. Before changing the wire spool, power down the welder and release tension on the drive roll assembly. Thread the wire through the liner and contact tip, and verify the drive roll groove size matches the 0.024-inch wire diameter. Set shielding gas flow rate and wire feed speed per the welder manufacturer's recommendations for the base metal thickness being welded.
