The FORNEY INDUSTRIES INC 45889 is a DC aluminum arc flux coated welding rod designed for arc and torch welding of low alloy aluminum. Each rod measures 1/8 inch in diameter and the pack contains 17 rods weighing 1/2 pound total. This electrode delivers the highest strength alloy formulation available for aluminum arc welding, with a tensile strength of 34,000 psi. It is suited for use with DC welding machines and is installed by professional welders and fabricators working in structural, industrial, and maintenance repair applications.
The 45889 rod performs on cast, wrought, and extruded aluminum in all positions, making it a versatile choice across a wide range of fieldwork and shop fabrication. Typical applications include truck beds, loading ramps and docks, banisters, stairs, diamond plate, irrigation piping, engine blocks, transmission housings, and railroad frogs. It can also function as a torch brazing alloy when arc equipment is not available. The rods are packaged in a protective plastic storage box.
Designed for use on low alloy aluminum base metals including cast, wrought, and extruded aluminum; also suitable as a torch brazing alloy on compatible aluminum alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified welder familiar with DC aluminum arc welding procedures. Verify polarity and amperage settings on the welding machine before striking an arc, as aluminum flux coated rods require specific DC polarity to perform correctly. Keep rods dry and stored in the provided plastic box when not in use, as moisture contamination of the flux coating can cause porosity and weld defects. Follow applicable AWS and workplace safety standards for eye protection, ventilation, and fume control when welding aluminum.
