The FORNEY INDUSTRIES INC 30701 is an E7018 classification low hydrogen welding electrode designed for mild steel applications. With a 3/32-inch diameter, this rod is suited for use on smaller amperage DC welders or higher amperage AC welders, giving technicians flexibility across a range of equipment. The low hydrogen formulation actively reduces the risk of cracking and peeling in the finished weld bead. This electrode is appropriate for all-position welding, making it a dependable choice for field work, fabrication shops, and structural applications where weld quality and consistency are required.
The 30701 is intended for use on hardened steels where preheat is not applied, and on cold rolled steels that typically exhibit excessive porosity when welded with conventional rod. Common applications include field erections, steel structures, frames, trailer hitches, and chassis fabrication. The all-position capability makes it practical for overhead, vertical, and flat passes in both shop and field environments. Each package contains 12 electrodes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement-class E7018 electrode compatible with standard DC and AC stick welding machines capable of running low hydrogen rods in the 3/32-inch diameter range.
E7018 electrodes should be stored in a rod oven or sealed container to maintain their low hydrogen integrity prior to use. Welders should verify their machine output matches the amperage requirements for 3/32-inch E7018 rod before striking an arc. Work should be performed in accordance with applicable welding procedure specifications and relevant structural welding codes such as AWS D1.1 where required. Inspect the base metal for contamination, moisture, or mill scale before welding to ensure optimal bead quality.
