The FLUKE FLUKE-9040 is a three-phase rotation tester designed to verify phase sequence in AC electrical systems operating between 40 and 700 VAC at frequencies from 15 to 400 Hz. The unit uses an LCD display to indicate rotation direction clearly without requiring an internal battery — the tester draws power directly from the circuit under test. Licensed electricians and HVAC technicians rely on this tool when commissioning motors, drives, and three-phase equipment where incorrect phase rotation can cause reverse operation or equipment damage. It covers a wide operating temperature range of 32 to 104 degrees F, making it suitable for both indoor and field service environments.
The FLUKE-9040 is used wherever three-phase power is present: commercial HVAC installations, industrial motor controls, variable frequency drives, generators, and utility-fed distribution panels. It is particularly useful during initial commissioning of three-phase compressors, pumps, and air handlers, where confirming correct phase sequence before energizing equipment is a critical step. The wide voltage and frequency range makes it compatible with both 50 Hz and 60 Hz systems, including variable-frequency-drive outputs.
Designed for use on three-phase AC systems operating between 40 and 700 VAC at 15 to 400 Hz, including standard 50 Hz and 60 Hz power systems and variable frequency drive outputs.
This tester is installed and operated by licensed electricians or qualified HVAC technicians in accordance with NFPA 70 (NEC) and applicable local codes. Always verify that the circuit voltage falls within the rated range before connecting the test probes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making or breaking any wiring connections at the load; connect the tester leads first, then re-energize only for the test. Do not use this tester on circuits exceeding 700 VAC.
