The FLEXALUM 012gfa-rl1000 is a reduced-wall aluminum flexible metallic conduit (FMC) supplied in a 1000-foot reel cut to length. It has a 1/2-inch trade size with an outer diameter ranging from 0.86 to 0.92 inches and weighs approximately 9.5 pounds per 100 feet. The aluminum construction keeps the overall weight low compared to steel alternatives, which is useful in overhead runs and in applications where the conduit is handled repeatedly during installation. Licensed electricians install this conduit as a raceway for electrical conductors where rigid conduit is impractical or where vibration isolation is needed.
This conduit is rated for exposed and concealed location installations. Typical applications include enclosed motor leads, elevator and escalator wiring, and wheelchair lift equipment. The reduced-wall profile suits standard FMC fittings sized for 1/2-inch trade conduit. It is appropriate for both commercial and light industrial environments where a flexible metallic raceway is required by the installation conditions or by the authority having jurisdiction.
Designed for use with standard 1/2-inch trade size FMC fittings and connectors in exposed or concealed location wiring systems, including enclosed motor lead and lift equipment applications.
Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NEC Article 348, which governs flexible metal conduit. De-energize all circuits before connecting or terminating conductors inside the conduit. Use a conduit cutter or hacksaw appropriate for aluminum to cut sections cleanly and deburr the cut end before inserting conductors or attaching fittings. Secure the conduit at intervals required by the applicable code and at each termination point.
