The FIRST ALERT BRK 1039718 is a battery-operated carbon monoxide alarm designed for residential and light commercial use. It uses an electrochemical CO sensor to detect carbon monoxide gas that cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. The unit is powered by a single 9-volt replaceable battery, keeping it fully operational during power outages. The internal sensor is a permanent component rated for up to 5 years of service life. When CO concentrations reach a dangerous threshold, an 85-decibel horn activates to alert occupants. Licensed electricians, HVAC technicians, and general contractors typically supply and install these units during new construction, renovation, or system service calls.
This alarm is suited for residential dwellings, rental units, hotel rooms, and small commercial spaces where a hard-wired installation is not required or not feasible. No electrical outlet is needed. The unit can be placed on a flat surface or mounted to a wall using the included optional wall-mount bracket. A pull-down action chart on the detector face provides occupant guidance when an alarm event occurs. A Test/Silence button allows both functional testing and alarm silencing without removing the battery.
Designed as a standalone, battery-operated carbon monoxide alarm suitable for residential and light commercial environments where no hardwired CO detection is currently installed.
Installation requires no electrical wiring, making this unit serviceable by any qualified trade professional or knowledgeable building maintenance technician. When wall-mounting, follow the manufacturer placement guidelines and local code requirements, including those referenced in NFPA 720 for CO alarm positioning. Test the unit with the Test/Silence button after battery installation to confirm proper function before leaving the job site. Replace the 9-volt battery promptly when the low-battery indicator activates to maintain continuous protection.
