The FERNCO INC P1056-42 is a flexible reducing coupling designed to join 4-inch pipe to 2-inch pipe in drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping systems. It accommodates transitions between cast iron and plastic pipe in either direction, making it a practical solution when connecting dissimilar materials during repairs or new installations. The coupling ships with two stainless steel clamps that compress a flexible elastomeric sleeve to create a secure, leak-resistant connection. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this coupling in residential and light commercial applications where rigid couplings are impractical or where vibration isolation is beneficial.
This reducing coupling is suited for underground, in-wall, and exposed DWV piping where a 4-inch-to-2-inch transition is required. It is commonly used during repair work when a damaged section of cast iron must be connected to a PVC replacement segment, and it is equally effective when connecting PVC to cast iron in new rough-in work. The no-hub flexible design eliminates the need for solvent welding or lead-and-oakum joints at the transition point.
Designed for use with 4-inch and 2-inch cast iron or plastic (PVC, ABS) DWV pipe as an OEM-style no-hub reducing coupling for residential and light commercial drain, waste, and vent systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber following applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off any upstream flow and ensure pipe ends are clean, deburred, and free of debris before positioning the sleeve. Tighten the stainless steel clamp bands evenly using a nut driver or torque-limiting clamp tool to the fitting manufacturer's standard procedure. Do not overtighten the clamps, as this can damage the elastomeric sleeve and compromise the seal.
