The FERNCO fernco-1056-64 is a flexible pipe coupling designed to create leak-proof connections between pipes of different or matching materials. It accommodates dimensional variation across pipe types including plastic, cast iron, asbestos cement, clay, concrete, steel, copper, and ductile iron. The coupling transitions a 6-inch pipe to a 4-inch pipe, making it well suited for drain, waste, and vent repairs or new installations where a size reduction is required. Licensed plumbers and drain contractors rely on this type of coupling for fast, code-compliant repairs without cutting specialized fittings. The part number, size, and compatible pipe materials are clearly marked on the body of the coupling.
This coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems wherever a 6-inch to 4-inch transition is needed. Common applications include sewer lateral repairs, building drain connections, and stub-out modifications. The flexible shear band design allows the coupling to seal reliably even on pipes with minor surface irregularities, out-of-round profiles, or slight misalignment. It is appropriate for below-grade, in-wall, and exposed drain applications depending on local code requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for 6-inch to 4-inch drain, waste, and vent piping systems across a wide range of pipe materials.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or applicable local code. The pipe ends should be clean, free of burrs, and within the acceptable pipe diameter range before the coupling is seated. Tighten the stainless steel clamp bands with a slotted or hex driver to the fitting manufacturer guidance without overtightening the elastomeric sleeve. Shut off flow and verify the line is depressurized or gravity-drained before beginning work.
