The FERNCO 1056-55 is a flexible banded pipe coupling designed to join piping sections where dissimilar materials meet. It accepts cast iron, PVC, copper, steel, and lead pipe in a 5-inch nominal diameter configuration. The coupling body is manufactured from elastomeric rubber and secured with stainless steel bands that compress the sleeve evenly around each pipe end to form a watertight, pressure-resistant seal. This design accommodates minor thermal expansion, contraction, and slight angular misalignment without rigid mechanical fasteners. The 1056-55 meets ASTM C1173 standards for flexible elastomeric couplings used in drain, waste, and vent piping systems. Licensed plumbers and underground utility crews are the primary installers.
This coupling is suited for gravity-flow sanitary sewer and storm drain applications in both residential and commercial settings. It is commonly installed during new construction tie-ins where different pipe materials must be joined, and during rehabilitation of existing underground piping where sections are being repaired or replaced. The 5-inch size handles both Side A and Side B at 5 inches, making it a straight same-diameter coupling rather than a transition reducer. It is particularly useful in drain, waste, and vent systems where rigid joints are not practical or where ground movement or vibration is a concern.
Designed for use with 5-inch cast iron, PVC, copper, steel, and lead pipe in gravity-flow sanitary sewer and storm drain systems. Both pipe ends accept a 5-inch nominal outside diameter. Suitable for drain, waste, and vent applications in new construction and underground pipe rehabilitation.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code. Shut off flow and relieve any system pressure before cutting or removing existing pipe sections. Pipe ends should be clean, free of burrs, and properly aligned before sliding the coupling into position and tightening the stainless steel bands. Do not use this coupling in pressurized supply lines or applications outside its rated gravity-flow design intent.
