The FASTENMASTER FMTLOK08-12 is an 8-inch countersunk structural screw designed for heavy timber connections without pre-drilling. Each screw is heat-treated for increased load-bearing strength and features heavy-duty threads engineered to pull tight through pressure-treated lumber, engineered beams, and dimensional framing members. The countersunk hex washer head seats flush on installation, keeping the fastener profile low and reducing interference with mating surfaces. A 5/16-inch hex drive bit is included in each 12-count pack. Licensed carpenters, structural framers, and deck builders use these fasteners where code-grade connections are required in wood-to-wood structural assemblies.
These screws are suited for residential and light commercial structural applications including deck framing, ledger attachment, post-beam connections, and timber stair stringers. The self-drilling point eliminates the need for a pilot hole in most pressure-treated and standard dimensional lumber applications, reducing installation time on multi-fastener assemblies. The thread geometry allows removal without damage to the fastener, making them a practical choice for temporary bracing or staged construction workflows.
Designed for structural wood-to-wood fastening in pressure-treated lumber, engineered beams, and dimensional framing applications where a heavy-duty structural screw is specified.
Installation requires a 1/2-inch high-torque, low-RPM power drill for best results — high-speed drills risk cam-out and fastener damage. Structural screw placement in load-bearing assemblies should conform to applicable building code requirements, including IRC and IBC fastener spacing and edge-distance provisions. Confirm lumber is clean and properly aligned before driving; debris or misalignment can affect seating depth and connection integrity. Always wear appropriate PPE when operating power tools on framing assemblies.
