The ESCORT m-16 is a billet aluminum 4-piston brake caliper engineered as a direct bolt-on upgrade to the OEM M16 single-piston caliper. The body and pistons are machined from 6082 T6 aluminum alloy, keeping the assembled weight to approximately 2.04 pounds (925 grams). Mounting geometry matches the original with integral mounting lugs at a 3.25-inch bolt center spacing, so no bracket fabrication is required. External dust boots shield the piston bores from contamination. A black anodized finish resists corrosion and heat cycling. This caliper is intended for vehicles retaining their original solid brake discs and requires alloy wheels for clearance.
The m-16 caliper targets classic Ford performance and road applications where the OEM single-pot caliper is the limiting factor. It is rated for most road applications and heavier vehicles that need an M16-type upgrade. Brake line connection is via an M10x1 banjo fitting, which differs from the factory line fitting, so a replacement brake line or an appropriate adapter is required at installation. The caliper also replaces the earlier Type P16 caliper found on early Capri and Escort RS models as well as the Cortina Mk2 Lotus, 1600E, and 1600GT variants.
Designed to replace M16 calipers fitted as standard to Ford Escort Mk1 and Mk2 RS and Mexico models, Escort Mk2, Capri 1970 onward, and Cortina Mk3, Mk4, and Mk5. Also replaces the Type P16 caliper found on early Capri models, Escort RS models, and Cortina Mk2 Lotus, 1600E, and 1600GT. Suitable only for vehicles retaining original solid brake discs and fitted with alloy wheels.
Installation should be performed by a qualified mechanic or brake specialist. Always depressurize and isolate the hydraulic brake circuit before removing any caliper. Because the m-16 uses an M10x1 banjo fitting rather than the original line fitting, a new brake line or a compatible adapter must be sourced and fitted before the system is closed and bled. After installation, bleed the brake system fully and verify pedal firmness before returning the vehicle to service.
