The EMUGE BU931400.5009 is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal threads without cutting - displacing material to create strong, chip-free threads in ductile workpiece materials. Built from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E) with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap offers enhanced hardness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tools. It carries a 1/4-20 UNC thread form with a 2BX class of fit and a bottoming chamfer of 1.5 to 2 threads, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 3.1496 inches. The tap is part of the EMUGE Druck 1-STEEL/E-SN-TiN series and is intended for installation by machinists and tool and die technicians in production or job-shop environments.
This tap is applied in blind hole threading operations on steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals - material application codes P, M, and N. The bottoming chamfer allows thread engagement close to the bottom of a blind hole where a plug or taper chamfer cannot reach. With a flute-by-diameter ratio of 3xD and a thread length of 0.6693 inches, it is suited for relatively shallow blind hole applications in both light production runs and precision machining contexts. No coolant-through capability is present, so external or flood coolant methods apply where required.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals (material application codes P, M, and N). Part of the EMUGE Series BU931400.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication - use a tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material, as these taps generate higher torque than cutting taps. Ensure the tap is held in a rigid, properly aligned tap holder to avoid bell-mouthing or tap breakage; floating holders are not recommended for forming taps in blind holes. Power down the machine and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable machining standards when setting spindle speed and feed rate for the material and tap diameter.
