The EMUGE BU501010.5000 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading blind holes in a range of materials including non-ferrous metals and steel. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it cuts a 1-64 UNC right-hand thread to a 3B class of fit. The 35-degree helix angle drives chips up and out of the hole, which is the defining advantage of a spiral flute design in blind-hole applications. With an overall length of 1.772 inches and a thread length of 0.177 inches, this tap fits the Enorm series and is sized for precision small-diameter work. Licensed machinists and tool room technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for blind-hole threading operations on production and job-shop equipment. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole while still providing enough lead-in for controlled engagement. At 1-64 UNC, this is a fine small-diameter thread commonly found in instrument enclosures, electronics hardware, and precision mechanical assemblies. The cobalt construction improves heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS, making it a practical choice for tougher steel alloys and harder non-ferrous materials.
Designed for blind-hole threading in non-ferrous metals and steel. Part of the EMUGE Enorm series. No coolant-through feature; external cutting fluid application is required.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder or tapping head appropriate for small-diameter, high-thread-count applications; rigid tapping setups help maintain thread quality at 64 TPI. Before tapping, confirm the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended drill size for a 1-64 UNC thread to avoid tap breakage. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear regularly, as small-diameter cobalt taps are susceptible to breakage under side load or misalignment.
