The EMUGE BU396A00.5007 is a bottoming thread forming tap designed for producing internal threads without cutting chips. Manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS-E) and finished with a TiN-T26 coating, this tap displaces material rather than cutting it, yielding stronger threads with improved surface finish. The 10-24 UNC thread form is produced to a 2BX class of fit with an H4 thread limit. It is installed by licensed machinists and tooling professionals in production and maintenance environments where blind-hole threading is required.
This tap is suited for blind-hole threading applications in steel and stainless steel workpieces. The bottoming chamfer - featuring 1.5 to 2 chamfered threads - allows the tap to form threads close to the bottom of a blind hole, maximizing thread engagement depth. With a tapping depth of 0.9843 inches and a thread length of 0.5118 inches, it fits standard CNC tapping cycles and manual tapping setups in both production shops and field maintenance applications where chip-free threading is critical.
Designed for blind-hole thread forming in steel and stainless steel workpieces (material application codes P and M) using standard 10-24 UNC toolholders and tapping chucks compatible with a 0.1940-inch shank diameter and 0.1520-inch square drive size.
Thread forming taps require proper lubrication and are typically installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping chuck, CNC rigid tapping cycle, or manual tapping handle. Because this tap forms rather than cuts, it requires higher torque than a comparable cut tap - ensure the tapping driver and spindle are rated accordingly. Verify the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended forming tap drill size for 10-24 UNC before use, as undersized or oversized holes will cause tool failure or poor thread quality. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the tap.
