The EMUGE BU396A00.5006 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for producing 8-32 UNC internal threads in blind holes. Manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS) and finished with a TiN-T26 coating, this tap forms threads by displacing material rather than cutting, resulting in stronger thread forms and no chips to clear. It carries a 2BX class of fit with an H4 thread limit and is sized for right-hand threading applications. Licensed machinists and precision machine shop technicians are the primary users of this tool in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering material application codes P and M. The bottoming chamfer with 1.5 to 2 chamfered threads allows the tap to form threads close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it a practical choice where thread depth is critical. The 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio supports deeper thread engagement relative to tap diameter. It is part of the EMUGE InnoForm 1-VA/E-SN-PM-TiN-T26 series, a product line developed for cold-form tapping in ferrous materials.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in steel and stainless steel workpieces (material application codes P and M). Produces 8-32 UNC right-hand internal threads to a 2BX class of fit. No specific machine or holder compatibility was stated in the product data; verify tap shank diameter of 0.1680 inches against your tap holder or chuck specification before use.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill - use the correct form tap drill chart value for 8-32 UNC rather than a standard cut-tap drill size, as the hole diameter is critical to achieving the correct thread percentage. Power down or lock out all machine energy before mounting or removing the tap from the holder. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for ferrous materials to the tap and workpiece before and during the forming operation. This tool is intended for use by trained machinists familiar with tapping speeds and feeds appropriate for form tapping in steel.
