The EMUGE BU206511.5043 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in demanding materials. Built from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel and finished with an NT coating, it handles stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium where standard taps fall short. The 1/4-28 UNF thread form with a plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in suited to production threading. Three flutes and a spiral point geometry push chips forward through the hole, keeping the flutes clear during the cut. Overall length is 3.15 inches with a thread length of 0.669 inches. Class of fit is 3BX for close-tolerance fastener applications. This tap is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in materials that accelerate tool wear, including austenitic stainless steels, titanium alloys, and superalloys. The HSS-E cobalt matrix improves heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS, making it a practical choice for aerospace, medical device, and industrial fabrication work. The right-hand thread direction and 28 threads per inch pitch are standard for 1/4-28 UNF fastener applications in precision assemblies. Coolant-through capability is not included; flood or mist coolant applied externally is recommended when tapping these material types.
Designed for through-hole threading of 1/4-28 UNF threads in stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Part of the EMUGE BU206511 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the spindle is properly aligned before tapping to avoid tap breakage. Power down or disengage the machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or external coolant for the workpiece material; dry tapping in stainless steel or titanium significantly reduces tool life and thread quality.
