The EMUGE BU100501.5006 is a straight-flute machine tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a nitride coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and thermal stability compared to standard HSS taps. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance production applications. With a class of fit of 2BX and a right-hand thread direction, it produces threads compatible with standard 8-32 UNC fasteners. It is intended for use in machine tapping operations on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines.
The BU100501.5006 belongs to the EMUGE Rekord A-H series, a line engineered for demanding production environments. It is appropriate for both job shop and high-volume manufacturing work where consistent thread quality across a variety of cast and wrought materials is required. The 0.512-inch thread length suits typical blind and through-hole applications at this thread size, and the 2.480-inch overall length is compatible with standard tap holders and quick-change tapping chucks used in vertical and horizontal machining setups.
Rated for use in austenitic iron, bronze, ferritic iron, gunmetal, high speed steel, low alloyed casting steel, Meehanite iron, perlitic iron, spheroidal graphite iron, and tool steel. Fits standard tap holders and quick-change tapping chucks designed for straight-shank machine taps at this size range.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or dedicated tapping machines. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled hole before starting the tapping cycle. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping regularly, as cobalt taps in hard materials can fail without visible warning if feeds and speeds are not properly set.
