Product Description

The EMUGE B529Z700.0040 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or chip generation. Manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel (HSS-E-PM) with a TiN-80 coating, it produces M4x0.70 metric threads to a 6HX class of fit with a D4 thread limit. At 2.48 inches overall length with a 4.50 mm shank diameter, this bottoming-chamfer tap is built for tight-tolerance blind hole applications. The InnoForm-Z/E-SN-PM-TiN-80 series is engineered for production environments where thread strength, surface finish, and tool life are critical factors. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians working in precision manufacturing are the primary users.

This tap is rated for blind hole threading in steel and stainless steel (material application codes P and M). The bottoming chamfer with 1.5 to 2 thread lead allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. A tapping depth of 0.83 inches (21.00 mm) and a 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio make it well-suited for CNC machining centers and tapping heads operating on short-cycle production runs. It does not require coolant-through capability, making it compatible with standard tapping setups.

Key Features

  • Powdered metal HSS-E-PM construction provides superior wear resistance and toughness compared to conventional HSS
  • TiN-80 coating reduces friction and extends tool life in steel and stainless steel applications
  • Bottoming chamfer (1.5 to 2 thread lead) enables threading close to the bottom of blind holes
  • Cold-forming action eliminates chips, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind holes
  • 6HX class of fit with D4 thread limit ensures consistent tolerance control for M4x0.70 threads
  • Right-hand thread direction, compatible with standard tapping equipment without special adapters

Compatibility

Designed for blind hole thread forming in steel and stainless steel workpieces requiring M4x0.70 metric threads at a 6HX class of fit. Part of the EMUGE B529Z700 series (InnoForm-Z/E-SN-PM-TiN-80). Intended for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses with tapping attachments, and dedicated tapping machines capable of controlled-feed tapping.

Installation Notes

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming pilot hole - use the recommended hole diameter for M4x0.70 form tapping per the tap manufacturer tables, as it differs from a cut-tap drill size. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; coolant-through is not available on this tap. Ensure the tapping spindle is set to the correct feed rate matched to the M4x0.70 pitch to avoid tap breakage. Always de-energize and lock out machine power before changing tooling.
