The EMERSON HLPE-1 is a high-efficiency hydronic hot water recirculating kit designed to deliver near-instant hot water at fixtures while minimizing water waste. At the core of the system is an ECM (electronically commutated motor) circulator, which draws significantly less energy than standard wet-rotor pumps. A thermal bypass valve controls return flow based on water temperature, creating a dedicated recirculation loop without the need to run new return piping. Licensed plumbers and hydronic technicians install this kit in both retrofit and new-construction domestic hot water applications.
The HLPE-1 is suited for residential and light-commercial domestic hot water systems that are connected to a hydronic heat source or standard water heater. The thermal bypass and ECM pump work together to maintain hot water at a set threshold throughout the distribution loop, eliminating long wait times at fixtures. This makes it a practical solution for multi-fixture homes, apartment units, or any installation where hot water delay is a documented service complaint. No dedicated return line is required, which significantly reduces retrofit labor.
Designed as an OEM-style recirculating kit for hydronic-supported domestic hot water systems where a dedicated hot water return line is not present or not practical.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified hydronic technician in accordance with local plumbing codes and the IPC. Shut off the cold water supply and depressurize the system before beginning installation. The ECM pump and thermal bypass valve must be oriented correctly per the manufacturer instructions to ensure proper flow direction and temperature response. Do not operate the pump dry or against a closed system.
