The ELKHART PRODUCTS WP02-08-06 is a wrot copper fitting reducer used to connect two different pipe sizes in a sweat-solder copper system. Sized at 1/2 inch x 3/8 inch with a FTG x C (fitting-to-copper) connection, this reducer transitions from a 1/2-inch fitting socket on one end to a 3/8-inch copper tube on the other. It is manufactured from wrot copper, which provides a dense, consistent grain structure suited for soldered pressure piping. Plumbers and pipefitters install this reducer in residential and light commercial water supply lines, refrigeration tubing runs, and hydronic distribution systems where a step-down in line size is required.
This fitting is used wherever a copper piping system requires a reduction from 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch tubing, such as branch supply lines feeding fixtures, fan coil connections, or refrigerant distribution piping. The FTG x C end configuration allows one side to receive a copper tube end and the other to slip into an adjacent fitting socket, simplifying in-line installations within tight assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for sweat-solder copper piping systems using 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch copper tube per ASTM B88 standards.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters following local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the water or refrigerant system completely before cutting into existing lines. Clean both the tube end and fitting socket with emery cloth or a pipe cleaning brush, apply appropriate flux, and heat evenly with a torch before feeding solder. Do not overheat the fitting, as wrot copper fittings can wick solder away from the joint if the fitting body reaches excessive temperature.
