The ELKHART PRODUCTS 1/2" X 3/8 is a wrot copper reducer coupling with stop, designed for sweat-solder copper tube systems in plumbing and HVAC hydronic applications. The built-in stop ensures consistent, repeatable insertion depth on every joint, reducing the chance of misalignment during soldering. Fabricated from wrot copper, this fitting meets the material standards expected in professional installations. The C x C (cup by cup) connection accepts standard copper tube on both ends and is joined using conventional solder technique. At 0.024 pounds, it is a compact, lightweight fitting suited for tight spaces in both new construction and retrofit work.
This reducer coupling is used wherever a 1/2-inch copper line must transition down to a 3/8-inch copper line in residential or light commercial plumbing, HVAC refrigerant piping, or hydronic heating systems. Typical applications include domestic hot and cold water distribution, baseboard heating supply and return lines, and branch take-offs from main runs. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch copper tube transitions in standard sweat-solder plumbing and HVAC piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with local plumbing codes and the applicable edition of the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off and depressurize the water or fluid system completely before cutting into any existing line. Clean both tube ends and fitting cups with emery cloth or a fitting brush, apply flux evenly, and solder using lead-free solder where required by code. Avoid overheating the fitting, as excessive heat can damage the stop and compromise joint integrity.
