The ELECTRO HARDWARE EKF2-M3-1.5-ZI is an M3x0.50 round head broach captive nut designed for permanent installation into sheet metal panels and thin-gauge fabrications. The broach installation method presses the nut into a prepared mounting hole, where knurled or serrated features lock it in place and prevent rotation during fastening. Finished in zinc plating over steel, this captive nut provides corrosion resistance suitable for indoor electrical enclosures, control panels, and light structural assemblies. The round head profile sits flush or near-flush against the panel face, keeping the installation clean and low-profile. Each package contains 25 pieces.
This captive nut is used in sheet metal assemblies where a permanent, torque-resistant threaded insert is required on panels too thin for conventional tapping. Typical applications include electrical enclosures, HVAC control panel housings, electronics chassis, and equipment cabinetry. The 1.5mm minimum panel thickness rating makes it suitable for light-gauge steel and aluminum sheet commonly found in commercial and industrial builds. Installation is performed by fabricators, sheet metal workers, and panel builders using a broach press or arbor press.
Designed as an OEM-style captive fastener insert for sheet metal panels with a minimum thickness of 1.5mm and a prepared mounting hole diameter of 4.2mm accepting M3x0.50 threaded fasteners.
Installation requires an arbor press or broach press capable of applying controlled downward force to seat the nut fully into the prepared panel hole. Power down and de-energize any enclosure or panel assembly before installing or servicing captive hardware. Verify mounting hole diameter of 4.2mm is held to tolerance before pressing to ensure proper retention and thread alignment. Do not attempt hammer installation, as uneven force can deform the nut body or damage the panel material.
