The EBAA IRON 2004pv Megalug Retainer Gland is a mechanical joint restraint fitting designed to secure AWWA C900 PVC pipe connections without slippage or pullout under pressure. The retainer gland installs over the mechanical joint bell and pipe spigot, using a series of gripping wedges that tighten against the pipe OD as thrust load increases. This self-activating design eliminates the need for thrust blocks in many installations, reducing excavation and concrete work. At 8.80 pounds, the unit is sized for 4-inch pipe. Water and wastewater contractors, municipal utility crews, and licensed plumbers are the primary installers of this type of restraint hardware.
The 2004pv is used in buried water main installations where 4-inch AWWA C900 PVC pipe is joined at mechanical joint fittings such as tees, elbows, hydrant branches, and valve connections. It is commonly specified in municipal potable water distribution systems and reclaimed water mains where thrust restraint must meet project specifications without poured concrete blocking. The MJ-to-C900 interface makes this gland appropriate wherever standard mechanical joint fittings meet PVC pressure pipe in new construction or repair work.
Designed for use with 4-inch AWWA C900 PVC pressure pipe at standard mechanical joint fittings. Specific compatible model or system data beyond the C900 PVC pipe standard was not provided in the product data; verify fitting OD tolerance and restraint class requirements against project specifications before ordering.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified utility construction crews in accordance with AWWA and local water authority standards. Depressurize and isolate the line before any mechanical joint work. Torque all MJ bolts evenly in a cross pattern to the value specified by the fitting manufacturer and applicable AWWA standards. Follow all trench safety requirements per OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P during excavation and backfill operations.
