The EATON TP489 is a square mud ring designed for use with 4-inch square electrical boxes in commercial and residential wiring applications. Also known as a device ring or raised cover, this steel mud ring provides a 5/8-inch raised depth and a 4.3 cubic inch internal capacity, giving installers the clearance and volume needed to properly seat a single wiring device flush with finished wall or ceiling surfaces. It is a standard component in rough-in electrical work, installed by licensed electricians during the framing or drywall phase before final device installation.
This mud ring is suited for single-device installations on 4-inch square junction or outlet boxes. It is commonly used in commercial construction, multi-family residential projects, and any application where a flush device finish is required after drywall or other surface materials are applied. The 5/8-inch raised profile accommodates standard drywall thickness, making it a practical choice for typical interior wall assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitment mud ring for 4-inch square electrical boxes requiring a single-device, 5/8-inch raised cover ring.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize the circuit and verify power is off before working inside any electrical box. Secure the mud ring firmly to the square box before drywall or surface finish is applied to ensure proper alignment for device mounting. Do not overtighten fasteners, as deformation of the ring can affect device seating.
