The EATON J-64 is a Class J fuse reducer designed to allow a 400-amp Class J fuse to be installed in a 600-amp Class J fuse holder or fusible disconnect. This adapter bridges the gap between mismatched fuse and holder ampere ratings, maintaining the Class J rejection feature throughout. It is used in commercial and industrial electrical distribution systems where panel or disconnect hardware is rated for a larger fuse than the circuit requires. Licensed electricians install this reducer during new construction, equipment upgrades, or service work on fusible switching equipment.
The J-64 is suited for use in fusible disconnects, fuse blocks, and panelboards that accept Class J fuses at 600-amp ratings. It enables the installer to downsize the fuse to 400 amps without replacing the fuse holder, making it practical in retrofit and replacement scenarios. Typical applications include motor control centers, industrial control panels, and commercial distribution equipment where Class J fusing is specified for current-limiting protection.
Designed for use with 600-amp Class J fuse holders and fusible disconnects that accept Class J fuses, allowing installation of 400-amp Class J fuses.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize and lock out the circuit before handling any fuse or fuse reducer. Verify that the reducer is fully seated in the fuse holder before reinstating power. Do not use this reducer to adapt fuse classes other than Class J.
