The EATON hom240 is a double-pole miniature circuit breaker rated for 120/240 volts AC at 50/60 Hz and 40 amps. It uses thermal-magnetic trip technology to protect branch circuits from overload and short-circuit conditions. The breaker features a common-trip mechanism, meaning both poles open simultaneously on a fault. A trip-indicator window provides a quick visual confirmation of a tripped circuit, reducing diagnostic time during service calls. Licensed electricians install this breaker in residential load centers and panelboards as part of routine panel work or circuit additions.
The hom240 is designed for use in residential load centers and HOM-series panelboards. It is suited for standard branch-circuit protection in single-family homes and light-commercial applications where a 40-amp, double-pole breaker is required. The plug-on mounting style allows for fast, tool-free installation into compatible bus configurations. Wire size acceptance ranges from 14 to 8 AWG aluminum or copper conductors, and 14 to 10 AWG copper for two-wire terminations, making it compatible with common residential wiring gauges.
Designed for use in HOM-series load centers and HOM panelboards. Also compatible with OEM interior and Speed-D switchboard distribution panels that accept the HOM plug-on breaker configuration.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. Always de-energize the panel and verify the main breaker is off before installing or replacing a circuit breaker. Confirm that conductor gauge and insulation rating are appropriate for the circuit load before terminating wires. Do not exceed the panel's listed maximum breaker ampacity or fill capacity.
