The EATON FRS-R-20 is a 20-amp, 600-volt dual-element, time-delay, current-limiting cartridge fuse designed for motor branch circuit and feeder protection. The dual-element construction separates the overload sensing element from the short-circuit element, allowing the fuse to ride through normal motor inrush currents without nuisance opening. Rated at 20A and 600V, it can be sized close to motor full-load ampere ratings, providing tighter overcurrent protection than standard non-time-delay fuses. Electricians and HVAC technicians install this fuse in disconnect switches, motor control centers, and panel feeders where inductive load protection is required.
This fuse is suited for residential and commercial circuits powering motors, transformers, and other inductive components subject to temporary surge currents. Typical applications include HVAC compressor and air handler circuits, pump motor branch circuits, and industrial motor starters. The time-delay characteristic allows the fuse to withstand brief startup inrush while still clearing sustained overloads and short-circuit faults quickly. Its current-limiting action reduces let-through energy, helping protect downstream components including motor windings and control wiring.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement cartridge fuse for Class RK5 fuse holders and disconnect switches rated for time-delay, current-limiting fuses in motor branch circuit applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit at the upstream disconnect or panel before replacing the fuse. Verify the fuse holder is rated for Class RK5 current-limiting fuses before installation. Do not install a fuse with a higher ampere rating than the circuit or equipment permits.
