The EATON FH56 is a thermal overload relay heater element designed for use with Type A and Type B overload relays. Heater elements like the FH56 translate motor current into heat, which in turn trips the overload relay when current exceeds the rated threshold, protecting the motor from damage caused by sustained overloads or phase loss. This element is selected based on the full-load amperage of the motor being protected and must match the relay model to ensure accurate trip response. Installation is performed by licensed electricians and qualified motor control technicians during motor starter assembly or field service.
The FH56 heater element is used in industrial and commercial motor control applications where EATON Type A or Type B overload relays are specified. Typical installations include motor control centers, combination starters, and panel-mounted motor starters across a range of commercial HVAC, pump, compressor, and conveyor applications. Selection of the correct heater element is critical to proper overload protection and must be verified against the motor nameplate full-load amp rating and the overload relay selection chart.
Designed for use with EATON Type A and Type B thermal overload relays as a replacement or spare heater element. Consult the EATON heater element selection guide to confirm correct sizing for the target motor full-load amperage.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified motor control technician in accordance with NEC Article 430. Disconnect and lock out all power to the motor control circuit before removing or installing heater elements. Verify the heater element selection against the motor nameplate full-load amps and the relay manufacturer selection chart before energizing. Do not substitute heater elements of a different type or rating, as incorrect selection will compromise overload protection.
