The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SP-8750-9-P-I is a 7/8-9 high-speed steel (HSS) spiral point plug tap designed for cutting machine threads in through-holes. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, reducing clogging and enabling faster feed rates compared to straight-flute designs. At 0.73 pounds, this import-grade tap is suited for general-purpose threading applications where consistent thread quality is required without the cost of premium domestic tooling. It is used by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians on drill presses, CNC machines, and manual lathes.
The SP-8750-9-P-I is sized for 7/8-9 UNC (Unified National Coarse) threading, a common fastener size found in structural, mechanical, and industrial assembly work. The plug chamfer (3-5 thread lead) makes it appropriate for through-hole applications and for starting threads where partial chamfer entry is acceptable. This tap is suited for production and maintenance environments threading mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials.
Designed for use in standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC tooling chucks accepting 7/8-9 plug taps. Suitable for general-purpose threading in through-hole applications across common machinable materials.
Always secure the workpiece and use the appropriate tap holder or chuck before beginning the threading operation. Apply cutting fluid rated for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly — back off to clear chips before continuing. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during operation.
