The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SP-8750-14-P-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) spiral point plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-hole applications. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap and out through the exit side of the hole, reducing chip packing and improving cutting efficiency. This tap is ground to a 7/8-14 thread form, meaning a 7/8-inch major diameter with 14 threads per inch (UNF fine thread). It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working in metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and equipment repair.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where chip evacuation is a priority. The plug chamfer style provides a moderate lead-in, typically 3 to 5 threads, making it appropriate for starting threads in a drilled hole and running through the full depth. It is commonly used in production and job-shop environments, as well as field repair applications requiring UNF threaded connections in steel, aluminum, or cast iron components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling tap for through-hole threading applications requiring a 7/8-14 UNF thread specification.
This tap is installed using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or machine spindle appropriate for the shank size. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 7/8-14 UNF before beginning the threading operation. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Reverse the tap periodically during hand tapping to break chips if the material is prone to long stringy chips.
