The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SC404-127-D is a No. 27 wire gauge stub-length drill bit manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a cobalt alloy blend. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on contact, allowing faster penetration with less feed pressure compared to standard 118-degree points. Its shortened flute length provides added rigidity, making it well suited for drilling in harder materials where a standard-length bit may flex or deflect. This bit is manufactured in the USA.
This stub drill is used in production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication shops where rigidity and accuracy matter more than depth of cut. The cobalt content makes it appropriate for stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, cast iron, and other abrasion-resistant materials. It is a common choice for machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians working on hard-metal applications at the drill press, milling machine, or with a heavy-duty hand drill.
Designed as a stub-length replacement or direct-use drill bit for No. 27 wire gauge applications in standard drill chucks, drill presses, and milling machine setups.
Secure the bit fully in a properly sized chuck and verify chuck key is removed before starting the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or high-nickel alloys to extend bit life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipped or dull to avoid inaccurate holes or bit breakage. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA standards when operating drilling equipment.
