The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SC400-018-D is a 9/32 inch cobalt stub-length drill bit with a 135-degree split point geometry. Cobalt construction provides heat resistance and added hardness for drilling through tough materials including stainless steel, hardened alloys, and cast iron. The stub-length body increases rigidity compared to a jobber-length bit, reducing deflection in tight workspaces or when drilling shallow holes. This bit is manufactured in the USA and is suited for use by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians working with metal fabrication, structural applications, or mechanical assembly.
This drill bit is designed for use in hand-held drills, drill presses, and magnetic-base drills operating at speeds appropriate for cobalt tooling in metal stock. The 9/32 inch diameter and stub-length configuration make it a practical choice for pilot holes, clearance holes, and production drilling in shop or field settings where rigidity and precision matter. No cutting fluid is required in all applications, though using a cutting fluid or oil will extend tool life when drilling ferrous metals.
Designed as a standard 9/32 inch stub-length drill bit compatible with any drill chuck or collet system accepting that shank diameter, including 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch keyed or keyless chucks on corded drills and drill presses.
Secure the bit firmly in the chuck before operation and confirm the chuck key is removed prior to powering the drill. Use appropriate RPM settings for the material being drilled — cobalt bits tolerate higher heat but still benefit from reduced speed in harder alloys. Safety glasses and appropriate hand protection should be worn during all drilling operations. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
