The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL SC400-005-D is a cobalt stub-length drill bit with a 135-degree split point, ground in the USA. Stub-length (screw-machine-length) drills are shorter than jobber-length bits, which gives the cutting tool greater rigidity and reduces deflection when drilling into hard or tough materials. The 135-degree split point geometry self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most surfaces. Cobalt construction improves heat resistance and edge retention when cutting through stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, and other abrasive alloys. This bit is sized at 5/64 inch.
The SC400-005-D is suited for metalworking applications in fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production drilling environments. The stub-length profile is preferred when working in confined spaces or when added stiffness is needed to hold tight tolerances in metal substrates. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance professionals commonly reach for cobalt stub drills when standard high-speed steel bits fail prematurely under heat or load.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cobalt stub drill for standard 3-jaw drill chucks and collet-style toolholding systems that accept 5/64 inch shank diameters.
Cobalt stub drills are installed and removed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using standard drill chucks or collet holders rated for the shank size. Ensure the drill press, CNC spindle, or hand drill is fully powered down and secured before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life and maintain surface finish quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged split point will reduce accuracy and increase the risk of bit breakage.
