The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL S404-102-D is a Number 2 high-speed steel (HSS) stub drill bit featuring a 135-degree split point tip. Stub drills, also called screw machine length drills, have a shorter flute and body than jobber-length bits, which increases rigidity and reduces deflection in tight spaces or on drill press and CNC applications. The 135-degree split point self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most metal surfaces. Manufactured in the USA, this bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication, HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in, and general trades use.
This stub drill is used wherever a shorter, stiffer drill profile is required. Common applications include drilling in drill presses, turret lathes, screw machines, and CNC machining centers. The reduced length is especially useful when working in confined areas or when minimizing runout and chatter is a priority. Trades such as HVAC technicians, pipefitters, electricians, and metal fabricators regularly use stub-length bits for sheet metal, light steel plate, and structural steel drilling tasks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use stub drill for standard 3-jaw drill chucks and collet holders accepting Number 2 drill bit sizing in drill presses, screw machines, and CNC equipment.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, metal fabricators, and trade professionals using drill presses, screw machines, or CNC equipment. Secure the bit fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify the chuck key is removed prior to starting the machine. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or damage before each use and replace any bit that shows chipping or dulling to maintain safe, accurate drilling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and wear appropriate eye protection during all drilling operations.
