The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL S400-032-I is a 1/2 inch high-speed steel (HSS) stub-length drill bit with a 135-degree split point tip. Stub drills are shorter than jobber-length bits, which reduces deflection and improves rigidity in tight clearance applications. The 135-degree split point geometry self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most materials and reducing walking at the start of a hole. This bit is suited for machinists, maintenance techs, and trade professionals drilling through steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other metals in production or field service settings.
Stub-length drill bits are commonly used when drilling depth is limited or when a shorter, stiffer bit is required to maintain hole accuracy. Typical applications include drilling in confined spaces, drilling on drill presses where rigidity matters, and use in portable drills where a shorter bit reduces bit flex. The 1/2 inch diameter is a standard size used across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical work when larger-diameter pilot holes or final holes are needed through metal framing, equipment panels, or structural components.
Designed as a standard 1/2 inch shank stub drill bit compatible with drill presses, magnetic drills, and portable power drills equipped with a 1/2 inch or adjustable chuck.
Secure the workpiece before drilling and ensure the drill chuck is properly tightened before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling through ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges before use and replace the bit if chipping or wear is present. Follow applicable OSHA and shop safety guidelines when operating drilling equipment.
