The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL S400-020-I is a 5/16 inch high-speed steel (HSS) stub-length drill bit featuring a 135-degree split point geometry. Stub drills are shorter than jobber-length bits, which reduces deflection and increases rigidity in applications where hole location accuracy matters. The 135-degree split point requires no center-punch in most materials and begins cutting immediately on contact, reducing walking on flat or curved surfaces. This bit is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking trades working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials.
The S400-020-I is a general-purpose stub drill intended for use in drill presses, CNC machines, lathes, and hand-held power drills where a rigid, short-body bit is preferred. Its compact flute length makes it especially useful in constrained setups, on thick stock, and in applications requiring improved hole straightness. It is commonly used in metal fabrication shops, HVAC equipment assembly, and general industrial maintenance work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use stub drill for any standard drill chuck or collet system accepting a 5/16 inch round shank, including drill presses, lathes, and hand-held power drills.
Installation is performed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, or maintenance trades familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Always wear eye protection and follow applicable shop safety standards when operating drilling equipment.
