The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL MT-025-045-T-I is an M2.5 x 0.45 high-speed steel (HSS) metric taper tap designed for cutting internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The taper lead — typically 8 to 10 threads of gradual taper — allows easy starting in a pre-drilled hole and distributes cutting load across multiple flutes, reducing the risk of breakage in small-diameter work. At M2.5 with a 0.45 mm pitch, this tap is suited for precision thread work in tight clearances. It is imported to a standard commercial tolerance and weighs approximately 0.09 pounds.
This tap is used in light machining, maintenance, and repair applications where M2.5 x 0.45 metric threads are required. Typical applications include threading small fastener holes in electronic enclosures, instrumentation hardware, small mechanical assemblies, and automotive components. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and skilled maintenance technicians commonly use this size for fine-pitch thread repair and original thread cutting in both hand-tapping and machine-tapping setups.
Designed as a standard metric taper tap for use in any setup requiring M2.5 x 0.45 internal threads, compatible with standard tap wrenches, T-handles, and machine tap holders sized for small-diameter taps.
Always drill the correct tap drill size for M2.5 x 0.45 before starting — an undersized or oversized pilot hole will cause tap breakage or poor thread quality. Secure the workpiece firmly and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the material being tapped to extend tap life and produce cleaner threads. When hand tapping, advance one-quarter to one-half turn forward then reverse slightly to break chips and prevent binding. A taper tap is a starting tap and is not intended to thread fully to the bottom of a blind hole — follow with a plug or bottoming tap if full-depth threads are required.
