The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-8750-9-B-I is a 7/8-9 high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap designed for cutting threads to the bottom of blind holes. The bottom-style chamfer — typically 1 to 2 threads — allows threading closer to the base of a hole than taper or plug taps permit. At 0.31 pounds, it is a lightweight hand tool well suited for bench work, maintenance, and repair applications. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and millwrights use this tap when full thread depth in a stopped bore is required.
This tap is intended for manual hand-tapping operations using a tap wrench or T-handle. The 7/8-9 designation indicates a nominal diameter of 7/8 inch with a Unified National Coarse (UNC) thread pitch of 9 threads per inch. This coarse-pitch profile is commonly found in structural fastener applications, heavy equipment, and general fabrication work where a robust thread form is needed in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials.
Designed as a hand-tapping tool for use with standard 7/8-9 UNC threaded fastener applications. Compatible with any tap wrench or T-handle driver sized for the appropriate square drive shank.
This tap is intended for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, or qualified tradespeople performing manual threading operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping, and use an appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and produce clean thread forms. Back off the tap periodically to break chips, especially in deep blind holes. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use — a damaged tap can seize in the hole or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
