The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-836-T-I is a high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap ground to an 8-36 thread specification. Taper taps feature a gradual lead-in chamfer across the first several threads, which distributes cutting load progressively and makes thread starting easier in both through-holes and blind holes. This tap is designed for hand tapping operations and is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and trade professionals who need to cut or chase internal threads in metal workpieces. The HSS construction provides hardness and wear resistance adequate for threading steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials.
The HT-836-T-I is used in applications requiring 8-36 unified fine-pitch internal threads. Common scenarios include tapping holes in light-gauge sheet metal, instrument panels, small fastener assemblies, and precision enclosures where the 8-36 thread form is specified. It is appropriate for both production maintenance and occasional field repair use where hand-tapping capability is needed without powered equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style hand tap for use in standard tap wrench handles sized for hand taps in the No. 8 diameter range.
Hand taps should be used with a properly sized tap wrench to maintain axial alignment during threading. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before and during tapping to reduce friction and extend tap life. Advance the tap in short increments and back off periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Always secure the workpiece before starting to prevent movement that can break the tap.
