The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-6250-18-B-D is a 5/8-18 high-speed steel (HSS) hand bottom tap manufactured in the USA. Bottom taps are ground with minimal chamfer on the cutting threads, allowing them to cut usable threads as close to the bottom of a blind hole as possible. This tap is used in hand tapping applications where full thread engagement near the floor of a stopped bore is required. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators reach for a bottom tap as the final step in a three-tap sequence or when working in tight-depth conditions.
This tap is suited for threading 5/8-18 UNF (fine thread) holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar machinable materials. The fine 18-thread-per-inch pitch makes it common in automotive, mechanical assembly, and precision fabrication work where a finer thread pitch provides greater holding strength and finer adjustment than coarse-thread equivalents. It is appropriate for both production shop use and field repair applications.
Designed for use in 5/8-18 UNF tapped holes as an OEM-style hand tap compatible with standard tap wrenches and T-handle drivers sized for the tap's square drive shank.
This tap is intended for hand tapping operations performed by machinists or qualified technicians. Secure the workpiece before tapping and use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being threaded. Back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use to avoid thread damage or tap breakage.
