The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-6250-11-P-I is a 5/8-11 high-speed steel hand plug tap designed for cutting internal threads by hand. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads — allows the tap to start easily in a through hole or a blind hole with sufficient depth clearance. Made from high-speed steel, it holds a cutting edge under the friction and heat of hand tapping. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians use this tap when threading steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials at a 5/8 inch major diameter with 11 threads per inch (UNC).
This tap is suited for general-purpose threading applications in repair, fabrication, and maintenance shops. The 5/8-11 UNC thread form is a coarse-pitch unified national standard size, commonly found in structural fastener applications, machinery frames, and heavy equipment assemblies. It is used where a plug-style starting profile is preferred over a taper or bottoming tap — making it a practical first or only tap in most through-hole threading jobs.
Designed as a general-purpose hand plug tap for cutting 5/8-11 UNC internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces using a standard tap wrench sized for the tap's square drive shank.
Hand taps should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using a properly sized tap wrench. Always secure the workpiece before tapping and ensure the hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 5/8-11 UNC before starting. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back off the tap periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind holes.
