The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-5625-18-T-I is a 9/16-18 high-speed steel hand taper tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-holes and blind holes. The taper ground chamfer — typically spanning the first 8 to 10 threads — allows the tap to start easily and progressively engage the material, reducing the risk of cross-threading. This tool is suited for use on metals including mild steel, aluminum, and similar machinable materials. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians reach for a taper tap when starting a new thread in a clean, unchased hole. The high-speed steel construction holds an edge through production-volume tapping tasks without frequent regrinding.
This tap is intended for hand tapping operations using a standard tap wrench or T-handle. The 9/16-18 designation indicates a 9/16-inch nominal diameter with a 18 threads-per-inch pitch, conforming to Unified National Fine thread form. UNF thread specifications at this size are common in automotive, aerospace, and general mechanical assemblies where fine-thread engagement and vibration resistance are priorities. The import-grade classification makes this tap a practical choice for job-lot work, training environments, or applications where high-volume tool turnover is expected.
Designed for hand tapping 9/16-18 Unified National Fine threads in through-holes and blind holes across a range of machinable metals and materials.
Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning any tapping operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to the tap and hole to reduce friction and extend tool life. Back the tap off periodically — approximately one-half turn for every one to two turns forward — to break chips and prevent tap breakage. Worn or broken taps can be extremely difficult to remove, so inspect the tap for wear before each use and replace as needed.
