The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-5000-20-T-D is a 1/2-20 high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap manufactured in the USA. Taper taps feature a gradual lead of 8 to 10 threads, making them the standard starting tap for cutting new threads in through-holes or when threading from scratch in tougher materials. The HSS construction provides the hardness and heat resistance needed for threading steel, iron, aluminum, and similar metals encountered in mechanical and trade work. At 0.32 pounds, it is a compact, hand-use tool suited for bench work and field repairs.
This tap is used in a wide range of trade and industrial applications including plumbing fitting fabrication, mechanical assembly, HVAC equipment repair, and electrical enclosure work where threaded fasteners in metal stock are required. The 1/2-20 thread form is a fine-thread UNF designation, common in precision mechanical assemblies and applications where vibration resistance or fine thread adjustment is needed. It is appropriate for both shop environments and field service use.
Designed as a standard hand taper tap for use with any 1/2-20 UNF thread application requiring a taper-lead starting tap in metal stock.
This tap is installed by hand using a standard tap wrench. Always secure the workpiece in a vise before tapping, and apply cutting fluid to reduce heat and extend tap life. Advance the tap with steady, even pressure and back off a quarter turn periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Discard or recondition any tap that shows signs of chipping, cracking, or excessive wear before use.
