The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-5000-20-B-D is a hand bottom tap ground from high-speed steel (HSS) for cutting 1/2-20 UNF threads. Bottom taps feature minimal lead chamfer, allowing threads to be cut to the very bottom of blind holes where plug or taper taps cannot reach. This tap is manufactured in the USA and is suited for use by machinists, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals who require precise internal threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It delivers clean thread form in production and repair applications alike.
This bottom tap is used in shops, job sites, and maintenance facilities where blind-hole threading to full depth is required. The 1/2-20 UNF thread form is common in automotive, hydraulic, pneumatic, and precision mechanical assemblies. It is typically used as the final tap in a three-tap sequence after a taper tap and a plug tap have been run through the hole to establish the thread form before finishing to depth.
Designed as a standard 1/2-20 UNF hand bottom tap compatible with conventional tap holders, T-handles, and tap wrenches sized for 1/2-inch shank taps.
Always secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding, particularly in deep blind holes. Follow shop safety practices and wear appropriate eye protection when hand tapping.
