The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-5000-13-P-I is a 1/2-13 high-speed steel hand plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in metal workpieces. The plug chamfer geometry — typically 3-5 threads of lead — makes this tap suited for through-holes and moderately deep blind holes where a gradual thread start is preferred. At 0.31 pounds, it is a lightweight, hand-driven tool that belongs in any machinist, pipefitter, or maintenance technician toolbox. HSS construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for tapping steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials.
This tap is used in general manufacturing, maintenance and repair operations, and field service work wherever a 1/2-13 UNC thread must be cut or restored. The 1/2-13 thread designation refers to a 1/2-inch nominal diameter with 13 threads per inch — a common unified coarse thread size found in structural fastening, machine bases, fixtures, and equipment frames. It is well suited for both shop use and on-site repair applications by millwrights, pipefitters, and industrial maintenance technicians.
Designed as a standard hand plug tap for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in through-holes and blind holes across common base metals including steel, cast iron, and aluminum.
This tap is driven by hand using a tap wrench — never force it with power tools unless it is rated for machine use. Apply cutting fluid to reduce heat and extend tool life. Back the tap off a quarter turn periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Follow standard shop safety practices: secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and wear eye protection.
