The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-4375-20-T-I is a 7/16-20 high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap designed for cutting internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Taper taps feature a gradual chamfer that starts the thread easily and distributes cutting load across multiple teeth, making them the standard starting choice for through-hole and open-ended threading work. At 0.31 pounds, this is a lightweight, handheld threading tool suited for bench work, field repair, and production setups where a manual or hand-tap driver is used by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals.
This tap is intended for 7/16 inch diameter threaded holes with a 20 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch, a fine-thread UNF designation. Fine-thread fasteners are common in automotive, HVAC equipment mounting hardware, precision assemblies, and structural connections where higher thread engagement strength is required. The taper chamfer makes this tap well suited for starting threads in new material or cleaning and chasing damaged threads in existing hardware.
Designed as a standard hand taper tap for use in any application requiring a 7/16-20 UNF internal thread in compatible base materials.
This tap is installed using a standard tap wrench or T-handle driver. Secure the workpiece before tapping and apply a suitable cutting fluid to reduce friction and extend tool life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and clear the flutes. Replace the tap if it becomes dull or if the tap shows signs of chipping, as forcing a worn tap risks breakage inside the workpiece.
