The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-4375-20-T-D is a 7/16-20 high-speed steel (HSS) hand taper tap manufactured in the USA. Taper taps are designed to start threads easily in through-holes and blind holes by gradually introducing the cutting edges over the first 8 to 10 threads. This tap cuts a 7/16-inch diameter thread with a 20 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch, conforming to UNF fine-thread standards. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance mechanics reach for hand taper taps when starting a new thread in metal stock or when re-chasing damaged internal threads. The HSS construction handles steel, cast iron, aluminum, and most common shop metals.
This tap is suited for manual hand-tapping operations using a standard tap wrench or T-handle, as well as low-speed machine tapping where a taper lead is preferred. The 7/16-20 UNF thread form is common in automotive, aerospace, and general industrial fastener applications where a fine-pitch thread provides higher tensile strength and better resistance to loosening under vibration than a coarse-pitch equivalent. It is appropriate for use in both production shops and field maintenance environments.
Designed as a standard hand taper tap for use with any tap wrench or T-handle driver accepting a 7/16-20 UNF tap shank. Compatible with conventional tapping operations in steel, aluminum, cast iron, and similar machinable materials.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance mechanic should select the correct tap drill size for a 7/16-20 UNF thread before beginning. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Advance the tap with steady downward pressure and back off a half-turn periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage. Never force a tap against resistance — back out and clear chips if the tap binds.
