The EAGLE CUTTING TOOL HT-3750-24-P-D is a 3/8-24 high-speed steel (HSS) hand plug tap manufactured in the USA. Plug taps feature a chamfer of approximately 3 to 5 threads, making them the standard starting tap for most through-hole and deep blind-hole threading applications. This tap cuts 3/8-inch diameter threads at a 24 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch, which falls in the Unified National Fine (UNF) thread series. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians reach for a plug tap when hand-tapping new holes or chasing existing threads on steel, aluminum, and similar materials.
This tap is suited for hand-tapping operations in general manufacturing, maintenance and repair, and fabrication shops. The UNF 3/8-24 thread form is common in automotive, aerospace, and industrial fastener applications where a finer thread pitch is required for greater tensile strength and vibration resistance compared to coarse-thread equivalents. It is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals when used with a proper cutting fluid and a correctly sized tap wrench.
Designed as an OEM-style hand tap for use in any standard tap wrench or T-handle accepting a 3/8-24 UNF plug tap. Suitable for threading new holes or chasing existing 3/8-24 UNF threads in compatible workpiece materials.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and qualified tradespeople performing hand-tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 3/8-24 UNF threads before starting. Apply a suitable cutting fluid throughout the tapping process and back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding. Never force a tap; excessive torque will cause breakage.
